"First Impressions"

It felt so good to get the ship out of space dock, good to be leaving, 
starting clean.  So far everything was running smoothly.  The crew 
responded to orders and no one was dead yet.  Always a good sign.  But 
just as Stevens finally remembered to exhale, the Captain called one of 
those infamous "Ready Room" meetings.

The Captain seemed a decent sort of commander, and of course many things 
needed to be discussed as far as scheduling and maintenance and all 
those sort of common issues.  What Stevens dreaded, though, was that 
first conversation when she would finally find out what the heck was 
going on inside the Captain's head.

What had Mozart heard about her?  She knew her reputation among superior 
officers wasn't always something to be proud of.  Certain Academy 
incidents had hopefully been overlooked when Stevens had been chosen for 
this assignment.  What was this woman expecting?  Stevens made her best 
effort to go into this job without too many preconceptions.  "I wouldn't 
be here if she didn't think we'd get along," she comforted herself 
silently as she headed for the Captain's ready room, reports in hand.

If she could only live through these first few moments, everything would 
turn out alright.  So, putting on her most confident appearance, she 
entered the Ready Room, and waited for the Captain's acknowledgment 
before beginning.

"Here are my preliminary reports, Captain," she said, handing her a data 
padd, "All things considered, the ship is well in order, discounting a 
minor supply mix up before our departure.  I've arranged the tentative 
duty shifts.  They should suffice until the crew finishes getting 
settled and I get a better idea of where everyone's focus should be."

She paused, unsure of what else she could report.  "Is there anything 
else, Captain?"
