As always, the most important project is to find the perfect place for her statue. Holding the smooth black object in her hand, she walks around the room trying to "feel" the perfect place for it. After a thorough sweep of her entire quarters, the statue feels right on the table next to the door. Stepping back slowly, she smiles. "Perfect" The black surface is like no other, not shining to reflect light, but actually absorbing all the light around it. Feeding off its surroundings. "just perfect" she repeats… Tearing herself away, she heads over to send messages. "Liseeri to CMO Blade, I am requesting a physical within the next two days. We need to set aside some extra time after my physical to discuss any unusual species on board." The next message was gentler (as counselors need that sort of thing). "Um, hello, I'm leaving a message for the counselor, can we meet sometime, like within the next two days so you can get a look at me? Thanks, and can't wait for some girl talk!…Liseeri" As she ended her last message, she heard the statue hum disapprovingly… From ???@??? "Welcome aboard, Mr. Seron. I am Ensign Marasuku, assistant shuttle operator. There is currently a staff meeting in progress. The Captain told me to ask you to get there as soon as you've been shown to your quarters." "It is illogical to delay everything further by looking at my quarters first. I would prefer to get to the staff meeting right away." "As you wish, Sir." Marasuku led Seron to the meeting room. "Come in." he heard a voice, probably the Captain's. The door opened, and Seron stepped in. Apparently, nobody was currently talking. He raised his hand in the Vulcan greeting. "May you all live long and prosper. I am Seron, new Chief Engineer." He didn't mention the shuttle problems, knowing the crew had received his calls from the shuttle. Delays are illogical. "We have just finished hearing the science officer's report. You can call it up in the computer later." The Captain said, knowing the Vulcan wouldn't want to interrupt the meeting for introduction formalities. "Take your place." Seron sat down at the table. "Have you been to Engineering yet?" the Captain asked him. "No, Sir. I got here directly from the shuttle bay. But I can use the computer to call up status information from here." "Make it so." Seron stood up and went to the computer console, calling up engineering data. "The primary phaser array is down," he noticed. "This appears to be a problem with the power supply. All other systems seem to be working well. Warp drive efficiency is at 98.4%." "Can you repair the phaser array before we arrive?" "I believe so - but since I cannot be absolutely sure about the reasons of the malfunction, I can't tell for sure." "Ok. Get to it as soon as the meeting is over." She was doing a full diagnostic on one of the many stellar snesor arrays that were scattered all over her Lab. She was also becoming rather annoyed. She had been back to this specific array at least five times now. She would finish on one side of the room and it would lead her right back here. So much for the dream Lab. It was just like Starfleet to arrange work stations in such improbable ways. She could feel her leg begin to cramp up. She was actually able to chart the process of the cramp from one muscle to the next. She knew it was coming and when it got here... "OW!" she yelled as her leg came out from under her, she lost balance and toppled to the deck. She heard someone come running over to her, she looked up to see Remiklos Jackson staring down at her, trying to figure out how to help. "Can I help you Ensign?" he asked rather tentatively. "No, I'm fine Mr. Jackson, I just cramped up my leg. Clavel sat up and grabbed her PADD as she began to massage her leg. "How's your work going?" "I've got most of the EM sensors finished. They seem to be in peek working order. I was just going to get started on some of the more antiquated reflector and refractor telescopes they have set up. Starfleet seems to have thought of everything." "Yeah, everything." Clavel replied a little sarcastically. "The subspace stuff is scattered all over. It's like they designed the place by using a chimp or two. When one side is done I've gotta go back across the room to recalibrate another side." she shook her head, clearing the sarcasm out of it, at least momentarily. "But that's neither here nor there. You're doing a great job Mr. Jackson and getting done in record time. Why don't you take the rest of the day off. I'll take care of the antiques and we can both work on the holo-projector tomorrow." The main phaser array was a problem that needed to be tended to immediately. "Ok. Get to it as soon as the meeting is over," she commanded. She silently cursed the Starfleet officials and engineers for what they had done to her ship. Before the refits, she had been running smoothly, the energy conservation rate being the highest in any Federation ship. And now this. All the new additions patched into the Darwin's systems. Her power distribution hadn't been designed to handle that, and together with a faulty connection here and there they were causing glitches and malfunctions by the minute. But hopefully, they would have solved that problem soon. They simply had to. There was no way she would let her ship go on its first surveillance mission while there was still danger of a malfunction in the offensive or even defensive systems. She tried to keep her mind from wandering. There was still so much to do today... most likely she wouldn't even be able to unpack her personal belongings and get settled in by the end of the week. Then her attention was brought back to the matter at hand as the next department head spoke up. <> ------------------------- Capt. Dorothy A. Mozart --- CO U.S.S. Darwin Cmdr. Alex hunched down a bit as if trying to wriggle into his chair, "Well, it's just that I'm not familiar with the race." Merken eased back and gave him an apologetic smile, "Sorry, it's just I'm suprised no one has even told you something of them, I myself have been doing some recent research of them, i'll fill you in." Merken leaned forward and sipped his coffee, "Well, Trills are a unique race that have provided host bodies for small soft-bodied entities in a symbiotic relationship." Merken cracked his neck a little and continued, "There are at least two races of Trill who act as hosts, those who have a ridged forehead, and those who have a narrow speckled band running aloung their hairline down their neck, then down along their body." Merken called up a mental picture of Alexis and quickly dismissed it, feeling a bit embarrased, he noticed Alex was leaning forward, anticipating his story and waiting for him to continue. Merken obliged him, "Well, the symbiote itself is a foot-long purplish lump of cranial and exoskeletal tissue, it may appear to some to be a bit ugly but to the Trill it is revered and respected." "Since symbioant integrates each new host's personality with it's own after joining, Trill relationships are often hard for single-unit species, to deal with and sometimes an sometimes don't survive the change." Merken became grim at that notion but continued on. "Trills are usually very responsible and moderate or reserved in personality, the symbiotes don't usually engage in romantical issues, content to seeking a "higher plane". Merken paused and sipped his drink while Alex noticed a nearby Trill and looked at him for a bit before looking back to Merken, Merken continued, "The symbioant does carry memories from previous hosts, and each new combination--aside from gender, weight, and height--carries a diffrent blood type, metabolism, nervous system, and brain wave pattern." Merken took another drink of his coffee, letting the bitter taste flow down his throat and settle his stomach. "The complex brain carries two cerebral nuclei--one in each being, linked together--whose brain wave patterns can each can be scanned seperately as well as together." "The two are bilogically interdependent; at 93 hours after their joining, neither can survive without the other." Merken considered Alex's reaction for a moment and continued, "Only one in ten is chosen to be joined to the "thoudands" of symbioants, but those not joined still lead normal productive lives." Merken sat back, there was more to be told, but it was basically only needed by medical technicians, stuff like tolerances and allergy's, nothing Alex would be concerned with. Alex sat back with a whistle, "Wow, that's sure something to think about, you seem to know a lot about them." Merken smiled, "Only as much as I need to for a doctor, the real expert is Dr. Slade, he is much more familiar with the Trill than I." Merken stood up and Alex followed, "Well, I better head back to Sickbay, got a lot of stuff to do, physicals and all, we have to do this again." Alex nodded, "Yeah, I have to see the couneslor soon as well, I'll make sure to have something intresting for us next time." With that Merken headed for Sickbay, Alex followed and headed off in another direction of the ship. ----Anyone feel like they should check in, do so---- ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com From ???@??? They were some of the most perfect equipment in the Lab, if truth be told. She gently screwed back in the eyepiece to one of the more enormous models. It was about all she could do with it, seeing as most of the telescope had been imbedded in the ship's hull. It was amazing what levels the science of astronomy had risen to. She had found her place. Clavel moved back to her office, rubbing her neck and dreaming about a nice, hot cup of chamomile tea. It would be just the thing after contorting her body into various positions during the day. There was still more to do, it was hardly after lunch time after all, but her first observations could wait. She arrived in her office only to find another message from the AMO on her computer. It looked like he had set the original to go off every few hours until you came in to get the physical. She grinned with slight amusement. Just like a doctor, always pestering you to do what he wanted you to do. She took a look at the chronometer, thought about the millions of stars out there to observe, shook her head and headed to Sickbay. The corridors of the Darwin were beginning to look more and more familiar. She could recognize areas that she had explored just the night before. The ship was really beginning to feel more like home. Well, anything would be home to Clavel, as long as she got the chance to look at the stars. She remembered her first trip in Space. It had been when she was around 24 and had been going to Vulcan to work on her doctorate. She had been so excited to be surrounded by the blackness of space, to have a feeling of almost being connected to the stars that surrounded her. The doors to Sickbay swung open as she walked thoroug them. She took a look around. It seemed that the Sickbay had been decked out as well as her own Lab had been. Everything seemed so new, so modern. It was really neat. She saw a man in medical blue, a Deltan if she didn't miss her guess. There was something about him...something she magnetic that she couldn't quite place as she walked up to him. Clavel shook it off. She'd figure it out later but until then it would be best to push it out of her mind. "AMO Merken I assume?" Clavel asked, extending her hand. She certainly hoped he was the AMO, she hated making a fool of herself. "Yes, I am." he replied, shaking her hand briskly. Clavel smiled at him. "Ensign Clavel Montenerro. I decided I might as well come and get the physical over with." her grin broadened "If only to get that message off my PADD." He grinned back at her. "Of course." was his only answer as he indicated one of the many biobeds that lined the room. She jumped up on it as he gathered his equipment. There was something about him though... USS Darwin
Ensign Matt Miller
Chief Exopaleontologist(Man that's hard to write;) )
Location:His quarters

The meeting with Maar had ended about 30 minutes earlier. Matt had waited about 15 minutes until he realized taht meetings on board the USS Darwin  weren't going to be short. So far, noone had bothered to tell him why he was on this vessel... Usually specialists such as paleontologists are given a second duty or are called after the discovery of the fossil or the area where a fossil could be found is made... Right now, he had neither a second duty or a fossil to study and time was perhaps going to make his presence even more aimless on the vessel. War had made sure that Starfleet needed more fighters than scientists... Fighters...Maar...
Matt pondered all this for a few moments... Could Maar help him find a place on this ship until his expertise was needed? He always liked to live dangerously, perhaps now was his chance to do so...
Maar had spoken of how she would like more Trills in security, more people she can relate to to talk with. But... "Am I really Trill at heart?" asked Matt to himself...
Raised by Humans since the age of 3... Now, he is 19... that is a long time with Humans, a long time learning their values... forgetting Trill values...  Yeah... he had to ask Maar... at the physical he would have that chance... he could wait... for now...

You have a little less than twelve hours to get those phasers and sensors back into working order. Dismissed." While the others slowly filed out of the room, she signaled Troi to wait and then walked over to her chief medical officer. "Dr. Slade, I presume it is the issue involving Dr. Harvey that you want to talk about." Her lips pulled into the slightest hint of a grin. "Or is it my physical you want to talk about?" She sighed. "I know I haven't gotten around to scheduling one yet. But you do understand that there are more important things which require my attention right now. Besides, I'm perfectly healthy... But to set a good example for the crew, I suggest we get this over with as soon as possible now. And while we're at it, you have as much time to talk about that Harvey issue as it takes you to complete my physical. Does that sound like a deal?" Seeing that this was probably the only opportunity in a couple of weeks to get the Captain down to sickbay, Slade had no choice but to agree. "Wonderful. Let's get going then." However, before the captain strode out of the door, she turned to face her counselor. "Narisha, I suspect it's nothing of uttermost importance, isn't it? Well, in that case I suggest we meet for dinner tonight, we might as well have that discussion in a more relaxing environment. Does 1800 hours suit you?" Counselor Troi nodded. "Sounds perfect. I appreciate your taking the time... Captain." She paused a short moment before using the rank. "I know you're quite busy." Mozart laughed. "Busy is no word to describe it..." Then she hurried after Slade, trying to walk through the doors before they closed behind him. Slade shook his head. For centuries it had been said that doctors made the worst patients, but recently he had come do doubt that. Captains made the worst patients, he was sure of that... if you were able to lure them into sickbay first. <> ------------------------- Capt. Dorothy A. Mozart --- CO U.S.S. Darwin Cmdr. Shikara's mind had been busy with scientific sensors for a while already. Not that she had not listened to what was said in the meeting, but for once she was thankful for having learned the techniques of concentrating on two things at the same time. There was sensors in basically every science department, and it worried her that they might have to recalibrate all of them. Most of them were in the Astronomy department, so it would probably be Ensign Monterro who would feel aggressive tendencies towards her if she had to tell her to redo a lot of the work she had been busy with today. Trying to be an optimist, she decided that her staff had more concentrated on testing the equipment than on calibrating, and by now was at least done with the EM, biostructural and gravitational sensors, since those were linked to TAC directly. On second thought Shikara realized that he rest of the sensors could remain as they were, they were most likely not the ones causing the problems. So maybe Monterro wouldn't have all that much reason for aggressive tendencies. Except those six EM sensors, Shikara thought, uttering a mental sigh. Walking out of the briefing room, she addressed Ensign Dodge: "Since this meeting took a little bit longer, I assume it would be best to start working on the sensor problem at once." Dodge: "Yes. This ought not take all that long. I will go to the bridge and check on the TAC calibrations. You should probably go to the lab with most of the important sensors." Shikara: "That would be Astronomy. I will contact you once I am there." From ???@??? He took a moment to look her over, she was attractive but she was looking at him with an unusual intesity, at first he was a bit intrigued at her forwardness, but then he realized what it was. He walked closer to her and began turning on the sensors over the bed. She seemed to fidget even more, rubbing her legs toghther and moving her arms from side to side, he knew what was happening and quickly took a hypo and sedated her so she was a bit more clearheaded. After a second or two, she blinked and the fog began to lift behind her eyes, she must have realized hat she had done and blushed deeply. Merken gave her a smile. "Sorry, I should have warned you." he began passing the instruments over her. She looked up at him, still a little lust in her eyes but subdued, "I knew Deltans were supposed to be allruing but.." He noticed the obvious puzzlement in her eyes, he decided to explain, it would make them both feel better. "You see, Deltans have a special genetic...gift, we give off pheremones which excite the opposite sex of most races," He looked down to her and gave her a sly smile, "escpecially humans." "It's not your fault and trust me, your not the first to lose control like that, some have even attacked me!" Clavel laughed at that and felt a little better, "So, do you seduce women to have your way with them with your gift?" She gave him a sly smile as well. Merken laughed at that, "No...no, I haven't taken abused it in that way, but I have heard that some of us make a good living using it." She smiled at that, Merken was continiuing his scans when someone else headed in, he was very quick to come to the point, "I'm here for my physical." He looked over to Merken and he noticed that there was already a patient there, and she seemed happy to be there. He quickly looke back to Merken, "If I'm interrupting anything I can come back later, when your done." He began to turn when Merken stopped him, "No, that's allright, I was just giving Ensign Clavel her physical." Ferrow turned back, "Oh, ok." He walked over to a biobed and hopped on it, "I'll just wait here." Merken smiled and walked over to his bed, "That's allright, I can handle multiple patients, that's my job, now just lay back and I'll turn on these instruments, they'll record preliminary data and I'll be back in a moment to go through more thoroughly, Mr...?" "Ferrow, Robert Ferrow, Helm, nice to meet you, ...?" "Merken, Dr. Merken, AMO, but just call me Merken." Merken smiled and walked back to Clavel, "Well, looks like we have company, no don't you feel more safe?" Merken smiled and Clavel mimicked him. "Oh, I think I can take care of myself." She laughed and Ferrow raised his head and looked over, and then laid back with a shake of his head. ----either one of you want to talk about anything? "Hi Counsalor, I was just on the way to work." "Well, I see you haven't made an appointment yet." She said as she looked down at her padd. "Yeah, I've been a little busy." I said as I looked at my watch, "Well, I gotta go. I'll make that appointment for sometime tomorrow, in the morning." I heard her mutter something about people never managing their time as I took off down the hallway. Mom was never like that, she always understood why I was so busy, she always seemed to understand me better then dad. I guess that's what you get when your Mom is half Valcan and half human and your Dad is all human. I shook my head as I begain to prepare myself for work. In the shiney new botanics lab acres of bubblewrap piled high as one by one the instruments were checked off, checked out and calibrated.
Armfuls of statically charged polysterene balls careened around the floor, and sequencers hummed and chattered as they digested fresh samples from the arboretum.
" Computer, " commanded the sweating ensign
" Inform Chief Shikara that Botanics are on line. The "canary" samples from the arboretum are within tolerable limits and the inventory is correct."
Braht relaxed slightly, he glanced at his PADD noting he should report for a physical and a psyche evaluation.
He'd had all the psyche tests anyone would ever care for at the  Norek Correctional facility,
they showed he was stable, the Elim brotherhood had taught him well how to control his moods,
it was pathetic, the Vulcans assumed a aire of Logical supeiority, but were just souless fools, he knew the true power of control, the inescapability of logic, the Huge cost.
Better to get it over with, he would need all the control he could muster if he was  to revisit Empok Nor.
Braht queried the sickbay appointments system, full check up -20:00, easy...

"+++taps+++ Ensign Braht to Troi I believe I must see you for a psyche evaluation, It may take some time, when would be convenient?..."

Her assistant was sitting at her table, staring at pile of PADDS that probably contained many reports and equipment evaluations. Lots and lots of stuff to read for herself, too. But that would have to wait. "Hello. The science department seems to be up running, judging from what I can see right now", Shikara greeted her friend, pointing on the PADDS. Gaeriel answered with a slightly forced smile: "Oh yes, it certainly is. By the way, there have been a few messages coming in for you." Shikara walked over to her own desk, telling the computer to display the messages. The first she got to hear was that she *still* had not taken either her physical or her mental evalutation, but afterwards a more encouraging message: "Botanics are on line. The "canary" samples from the arboretum are within tolerable limits and the inventory is correct." That was something positive after all. "Where are you going now?", Gaeriel asked her when she was moving towards the door again. "To the astronomy lab, try to figure out if some problems in TAC originated there." "Astronomy lab? You won't find anybody in there at the moment, Ensign Monterro has just left to take her physical. She is done with most of the tests, though." Shikara's left eyebrow rose a few millimeters : "There's nobody there? Hmm. All right then, recalibrating sensors is fun if you do it alone, too... See you later." After arriving in the astronomy lab, Shikara quickly walked over to a computer terminal and asked for a few data. Then she was ready to contact Dodge: +taps+ " Ensign Dodge, this is Ensign Shikara. Mozart Commanding Officer Stardate 49902.05 "Apologies" --------------------------- Captain Mozart and Doctor Slade had just rounded the last corner on their way to sickbay when a voice called out behind them, "Captain." The person, whoever it was, seemed a little out of breath. Still in the middle of a conversation with Slade, Mozart didn't turn around immediately. "Yes, what is it?" she inquired, hoping that this wouldn't take too long. She wanted to get that physical over with before something else came up. Then she found out why the voice had sounded so familiar. "Alex, Alex Corum," the person identified himself. Amused by the fact that he was using his first name to introduce himself, she stopped immediately and turned around. "Yes, Ensign Corum?" A tinge of annoyance sounded through her voice. Their meeting at the reception had been quite amusing, but right now she had better things to do than to deal with some young ensign's advances. "Um... Captain," he began to turn red already and she realized that she had one less thing to worry about. "I just wanted to... apologize for last night." She shrugged. "No need to apologize, Mr. Corum. In a crowd like that it's easy to get confused." She watched him relax and admitted that her reaction hadn't only been caused by the fact that she had so little time to deal with things like this. She had had her experiences with relationships for the moment and didn't want to be reminded of some things that had happened recently. Just at that moment, her comm badge began to chirp. Why did these things always have to chirp in the middle of conversations, she wondered "Mozart here," she answered. "This is the bridge, Ensign Ferrow speaking. I just wanted to inform you that the ETA to Outpost 301 has been reduced by approximately two hours." The captain nodded, although the gesture could not be seen at the other end of the comm link. "Acknowledged. Mozart out." She briefly calculated and decided that she would let someone else deal with the formalities of Ensign Ronin's arrival, she didn't want to be late for her meeting with Narisha. Hopefully the science and engineering teams had completed the calbrations by that time, if not they would just have to deal with it without help from the Outpost. <> ------------------------- Capt. The Captain would probably not like such an unhealthy habit from a Chief officer. Maar would not expect it of any of her security officers. She should not do it herself. But the day would be done for her by 19:00 hours. She could hold out until then. The Doctors would most likely notice that she is in fact lacking valuable sleep. "Yes... yes I know..." Farrell reminded herself of the inner callings of Maar who said one thing -sleep. Farrell filed down her report and left a message for all security officers, "All Security Personel please meet with me in my office by 15:00 hours today. If I do not see you within that time... I will assume your abilities myself and make my own judgement calls. Ones of which you probably will end up not liking. I look forward to meeting my teams." Ah, always off to a very friendly start. Maar smiled... But the Horizon Security teams ended up loving her. But it had seemed that their Chief Security officers were always popular if not dead already. Such a morbid thought. Maar walked over to the private lavatory that was connected to her office. She looked in the mirror and ran water over her hands. Maar smoothed down her fussy hair, "Short is a very new look for me... but one with wavy hair is cursed with it. Too bad it was caught in the fire." She splashed water on her face and opened the comm system to leave a message for Miller, "Ensign Miller, my security officers must be here before 15:00 today... if you are not on duty, we could go to Sickbay sometime after. Maar out." "I hate Sickbay... I would much rather see a dentist." Maar walked back to her desk and slouched into her chair reading more schematics on the ship. <> ------------------------------ goddess@risanet.com - siona@startrekmail.com dreamsgallery@hotmail.com - theendless@gmx.net ------------------------------ http://email.fsg-sims.com/ http://email.fsg-sims.com/empok/ http://shadowstar.risanet.com/ ----------------------------- I must not fear. Matt listenend to Maar's message on the commlink. He looked at the bags in his quarters and sighed as he pictured all the cleaning up he had to do soon.
He pressed the commpannel "Miller to Maar... I can go now if you want..."

He began cleaning while he awaited an answer from Maar.
"I'm going to sickbay, meet you there!"  She spoke in the Intercom.
Miller dropped what he was doing and looked at himself, "Okay, doing good, you're presentable..."
He stepped out of his quarters and headed towards sickbay...

Maar stepped in sickbay as Matt arrived. The Chief Medical Officer looked up from a patient and let out a smile as the 2 officers stepped in...

With a little more experience he would make a fine officer... and it was sure that he would be able to gather lots of new experiences in the following weeks. Before she knew, she and Slade had reached sickbay and the doors slid open when they entered. The room seemed much more crowded than she had expected. Quite a few people had apparently found the time to get their physical done. She noticed Ensign Dax sitting on a biobed, waiting for some doctor to find the time doing the medical scans. She briefly stopped to greet the Ensign before proceeding to a biobed further back in the room. On their way they passed Merken tending to another group of patients and she was grateful that Dr. Slade had decided to do her physical. Not that she didn't get along with his assistant, it was just that she didn't want to deal with his pheromones again until she was less stressed. Finally she sat down on the biobed and looked at Slade. "Go ahead and get started on your scans, Doctor." <> ------------------------- Capt. Dorothy A. Mozart --- CO U.S.S. Darwin Cmdr. She sat up, this time not really minding the distraction. "Sorry, doctor." She tapped her badge. "Mozart here." A voice she didn't recognize spoke up. Probably somebody at tactical. "This is the bridge. Captain, you have an incoming message from Outpost 301." Mozart gave her chief medical officer an apologizing shrug. "I'll take it down here, relay it to sickbay please." She stood up to tap a button on the console next to the biobed. Soon the UFP logo appeared, followed by the image of the station commander. "There are a few things that require you being notified of before your arrival. First of all, I have been informed that Ensign Ronin has left the Outpost by shuttle several minutes ago. Apparently he couldn't wait to get on board. "Then there are two other officers awaiting transfer to the Darwin. Their names are Ensign Milon and Weapons Specialist Hunter." The Captain nodded. Somewhere in the back of her mind those names rang a bell. They had been assigned to the Darwin, she just hadn't been sure when they were able to come on board. Now she knew. "I will have them beamed onto the Darwin at the time of our arrival. So far our systems are functioning within normal parameters, so there will be no need for us to dock. Our ETA will be in approximately two hours." Once the connection had been closed, she tapped her badge again. "Mozart to Dodge and Shikara. You have less than two hours to complete those calibrations. You better let me know of any problems *before* we arrive." She realized that her voice had sounded a bit harsher than intended to, the exhaustion and lack of sleep appeared to be taking their toll. ------------------------- Capt. Dorothy A. "Right now she is in the process of updating the duty rosters for her department...as well as organizing other matters relating to security." Pheremones huh? Pheremones? She grinned wryly to herself and determined to find some way to reduce the effect those chemicals had on her. The whole situation had a possibility of becoming very, very embarassing, especially if she was sick, or doped up, or something like that. Clavel slid off the biobed and made a quick exit from Sickbay, after sending a wry smile the AMO's way. At least he had the aplomb to deal with the whole situation humorously. Of course, of all of the chemicals to secrete, pheremones were definitely not the worse ones, by any stretch of the imagination. That thought and it's connotations made Clavel's smile grow as she stepped into the turbolift and started back on the way to her Lab. The Science Deck, or Decks, it was rather hard to determine, was busy and boisterous. There were people moving around with determination. She noticed all sorts of uniforms and species. She loved this side of science also, this communal excitement. It was like every scientist had a common goal, the search for truth or some such. Clavel loved the intensity, the spirit of the hunt. She had been missing this atmosphere ever since she joined the Academy and here it was, back in full swing. Scientists never ceased to amaze her, that even with a war in full swing, people were dying out in the blackness of Space, but scientists would continue to search for those metaphysical answers to life by examining the physics of life and the universe. Clavel stepped into her Lab. "Computer," she called out "would you be so ki..." she stopped. There, in the middle of her Lab, her sacrosanct space on this ship, were a group of interlopers. Not only did they come in without here permission, that she could forgive, but they were mucking about with her sensors, the sensors she had spent hours testing and calibrating only that morning. She could feel a cold rage race through her body. "Excuse me." she said coldly "Excuse me." She said more loudly as they continued to ignore her. She walked up behind them. "I would like to know what your doing in here and by whose authorization. I was not informed of this little work party." The people turned around. The woman in the group seemed to stand up even taller, kind of like she was wrapping a mantle of authority around herself. "We have the Captain's authorization. I'm Chief Science Officer Shikara Nilia and I assume your Ensign Montenerro?" The woman's voice was cold. She was almost daring Clavel to respond in the same way. Clavel was willing to take her up on it. "Oh are you. Well, sir, if I may be so bold." Clavel responded with more then a hint of sarcasm "This is my Lab you have trespassed in. I don't care if you are my superior or the Federation President himself, this is my Lab and I deserve, no demand, the right to determine who mucks about with my sensors and for what reason." CSO Nilia just looked at her coldly. Clavel could easily detect the Vulcan in the woman, the same brand of arrogance she had learned so well during her stay on Vulcan. She couldn't remember where she had seen those nose ridges before, but she was sure it would come back to her. "Ensign Montenerro. While this may be your lab, it is my department and the Captain's ship. She has ordered that we recalibrate the sensors to accomodate the phaser banks (OOC:I think that's what she wants, if I'm wrong then I'm sorry;-). If the Captain wants the sensors recalibrated then that's what will be done, whether you are informed about it or not. Is that clear?" "Crystal, sir." Maybe her family had been right, maybe Starfleet really wasn't the place for her... "We could use your help on this project however. You have more knowledge of these systems then we do and it seems you've made a few modifications. Now, if you would be soe kind..." Nilia gestured to the sensor system that was exposed in the wall. Clavel nodded and walked over to the wall. You win some and you lose some, and she had definitely lost this one. She had to remember that Starfleet wasn't academia and that no matter how much she might hate this infringement, it was the way the military worked. She had made her choice and there was a war on. Clavel nodded to her superior. "Well then, if that's the case. Just tell me what needs to be done." OOC: Have fun Shikara. We'll modify what needs modifying. Upon beaming on to the outpost she noticed someone rushing the security guards and takes a step backward and prepares to defend herself. "Humph" Cosack says as the person runs straight into him. The startled Ensign couldn't figure out where the brick wall came from that he was sure was not there a second ago. "Oh! I'm sorry but I'm running late and I didn't see you there. He merely nodded to her as he scanned the rest of the area for any possible attacker to he female in his protection. They were directed to the transporter room to await the arrival of the USS Darwin and noticed another person waiting in the same area. Turning back to her security escort Takarri says, "This is as far as I go for now. The ship should be here soon. I'll be alright from here on in." Looking dubiously at the other person waiting, Cosack says, "Just a minute I'm not leaving anything to chance here." With that he walked over to the other person and started talking to them. A short time later Cosack came back and said, "Okay, they are waiting for the USS Darwin also. Name is Hunter and is a Weapons Specialist. I'm satisfied that you should be safe here." Takarri nodded her goodbye and just as Cosack turned away she said, "Remember, any day is a good day to die." He turned and walked away. She turned and approached Hunter and said. She was just about to make another sharp comment, when she realized that there was no need to carry out a battle at the moment. She also realized that her anger and stress had taken control of her for a moment, and that there would have been at least ten more logical ways of starting out a conversation that was supposed to lead to a positive work climate. Anyways, she had already been mad at the absent Monterro. When she had started to work on the sensors, it had turned out that the problem was bigger than it had looked like at first. Most of the systems had been 'personalized', which had had the effect that they worked together a lot better than before- at least within the limits of the astronomy lab. However, they did no longer work together all that perfectly with systems of the rest of the ship. At that point in time, Nilia had to ask for an engineer to come up to the lab to help her, and Seron had told her in very polite way that in future, the science department better create no more problems that were too big for the very same science department to solve alone. When the Captain then told her in a less polite way that they had less than two hours to finish, she decided that it was the right moment to give Gaeriel a chance to get away >from her PADDs and to join 'this little work party' in the astronomy lab. So while by then they were three people, running from one end of the lab to the other, because Starfleet had of course managed to place the devices with the most similar functions with as much space as possible in between, Ensign Monterro came in, demanding to be informed about whatever was happening in her lab. Nilia had been very close to yelling at her that if she wanted to be informed she should be in her lab when she was supposed to be there, and not get her damn physical which was definitely not her biggest problem right now. With the intention to calm herself down, Nilia tried to fully concentrate on her work again. She wasn't being fair to Monterro. Nobody had had the time to get accustomed to the ship yet, and there had been no way the Chief Astronomy Officer could have expected its reaction to the seemingly harmless changes she had made. Changes that probably would have been an improvement in any other lab. Additionally, the problem phaser problem had existed before, even though to a lesser extent. Pushing off her frusttration and with it the acidity in her voice, she said: "Very well. Right now, the science calibrations differ from the TAC calibrations by 12.41 percent. The maximal difference that is still in acceptable limits is 3.5 percent. We turned off both the biostructural and the gravitational sensors," - Nilia could see a short glow of protest in Monterro's eyes that quickly disappeared again- "they will hopefully be no more than an internal problem later. We have adjusted the calibrations of five of the six EM sensors, but whenever we try to change the calibrations of the photovisual sensor, we get test results that are not even close to sufficient. We have already remodulated several possible phase variations. Are you aware of anything else we might try?" Monterro seemed to be running through lists of possible problems in her mind before she answered: "Have you looked for an optronical malfunction in the photoelectrical comparator yet?" Nilia was stunned. They actually hadn't. "That's a very good idea. Let's get started". After hitting her cam badge, she said : "Dodge? Someone came in down here with a new idea ...". Half an hour of work later, the science and TAC calibrations almost matched, and all test results were very good. Nilia heard Dodge's voice through her com badge: " Alrighty Science, looks like we did it! Now we can finally quit playing engineers...". A slight smile crept through Nilia's face, and when she looked over to Monterro, she saw her smiling, too. Working together was obviously a good cure against mutual aggressions. The expression of her face was neutral again when she addressed Monterro, and her voice was not exactly overhelmingly friendly and warm. But still, it sounded differently, probably because now Nilia had come to respect Monterro and her way of working. "Thank you for your help, Ensign Monterro. It has been good to work together with you, and I am glad to have you in the science department." From ???@??? Braht checked his chrono, 20:00.
He waited impatiently,
he hated waiting.
He'd spent much of the last ten years waiting for medical exams, psyche exams, waiting for a stranger to poke cold metal probes into various unwanted places, and tell him he wouldn't be paroled this time.
A nurse breezed past.
" Are you waiting for a medical?", she queried politely.
"Yes", mumbled Braht, "Scheduled for 20:00,you seem to be understaffed."
" Were picking up some more medical personnel from outpost 301.. a Klingon too!
I think she's called Takarri Milon."
Braht winced .
The Milon Clan would not approve of his posting on the same ship as Takarri, even before his imprisonment they were from different circles.
The nurse breezed off leaving him alone,
Braht picked up a copy of "Cosmo" and began reading an article entitled
"101ways to spice up your sex life" maybe waiting wasn't so bad.

She was too tired to even complain to herself, and it really wasn't worth it anymore. It had felt like a breach of privacy to come back and find a bunch of strangers arrayed in her Lab, mucking around with her stuff, but they had had their reasons, very good reasons truth be told. Clavel knew she had overreacted and caused quite a scene in front of her new superior. It was strange though, by the end of the marathon work session it had no longer felt as if CSO Shikara was her enemy. She had grown to respect the woman and it seemed that Shikara was going to allow Clavel the opportunity to overcome that bad impression. Clavel settled more firmly down in her seat with that thought, allowing her stiff body to relax. She could feel her eyes begin to close. BEEP! Clavel moaned and opened her eyes. The office had dimmed itself automatically as her breathing had begun to slow. She rubbed her eyes and looked sleepily around the office. She couldn't figure out what had made that noise, so she let herself slowly close her eyes once again... BEEP! The noise came again. Clavel roused herself and sat up in her chair. "Lights." she said softly. She looked around again and then her sleep fogged brain realized what must have been beeping. She grinned self-depatingly. "Come." She called to whomever was outside her office door. The door slid open to reveal a young woman in science blue. Clavel stared in surprise at the woman and then stood up with a laugh. She impatiently beckoned for the woman to come inside because she couldn't find her voice, or the words. The woman just stood there patiently with a slight smile on her lips. "Amy, is it really you? I didn't know you would be on the Darwin. I didn't even know you had joined Starfleet." The woman, Amy Deyonke just laughed. "You always were a bit slow. I told you myself that I was going into the Academy." "No, you told me you were thinking about going into the Academy, there's a big difference." Suddenly a thought struck Clavel "That means we must have been in the Academy at the same time, why didn't you call me, you must have known I was there!" "Why didn't you call me. A couple of recorded holiday messages and you assume all of your old friends are fine and dandy. You didn't even tell me you were at the Academy, I thought you were still on Vulcan, or off on some other far flung world." Amy grinned humorously "Actually, it was your excitement with Vulcan that convinced me to give up acting and go into the Academy." "That's really weird because it was your Starfleet idea that convinced me to go to the Academy." Clavel and Amy glanced at each other and then started laughing. Clavel stepped out from behind her desk and hugged her friend. They hadn't seen each other for years. They sat down together after the laughing, hugging, and sureptitious crying had ended. There was so much to catch up on, but this really wasn't the time. "So why are you outside my door? Did you figure out I was here and come calling?" Clavel asked, knowing full well they could have gone for months on the same ship without bumping into each other. "No." Amy grinned at her mischeviously "I'm actually a member of your department, effective immediately. I took enought Astronomy to qualify plus I'm proficient in quite a few other departments. You could call me a jill of all trades. I signed up for the Darwin on a whim, and look where it's taken me already." "Indeed." Clavel grinned at her. "Well, let's get out of this stuffy little office. Let's go grab a bite to eat. There are so many things I'm just dying to ask you." They nodded in tandem and left the office. She had never been interested in that period of time, always looking into the future, she mused. So maybe it was time for her to learn something about it now. Besides, she had definitely enjoyed the music at the reception. She smiled at the doctor as she turned to leave. "I will get back to you on that once I actually have time to think about relaxing." Checking the chronometer she realized that she had less than half an hour until the Darwin's arrival at the Outpost. Just enough time to go to the bridge, make sure the ship was operating smoothly, spend some minutes in the ready room and then meet with Narisha for dinner. Arriving on the bridge, she noticed that it was clear of engineering teams, neither could she spot Dodge or any other tactical officer. Apparently they had finished the recalibrations just in time. On her way to the ready room she nodded at Stevens who was sitting in the 'big chair' and soon she was sifting through the loads of messages waiting for her on her comm terminal. The one from Dax made her smile. "I consider my policy on pets pretty liberal, so don't worry about your cat. As a matter of fact, I'm sharing my quarters with one as well... although I'm pretty sure she thinks it's the other way round." Dorothy winked and continued, "We should meet up for some 'cat-talk' once everything has settled down a bit... " The next message was a detailed report of all the sensor re calibrations and phaser alignments. She decided to read through it once she had a little more time. For now all that mattered was that everything was working within normal parameters and there was no need for a prolonged stop at the Outpost. She smiled wryly, at no one in particular. After all, they couldn't really afford to lose any more time, the Jem'Hadar were waiting for them... She let out a long sigh... how long would it take her to finish reading all of those messages? Finally her comm badge chirped and Ensign Wells from Operations spoke up. "Captain, we've just received notification from Outpost 301 that our new crewmembers will arrive via shuttle since the Outpost is running a level one diagnostic of their transporter systems. The shuttle is already on its way and will arrive in approximately five minutes." "Very well, have the shuttle bay standing by to take them in." She tapped her comm badge again. "Mozart to Lieutenant Maar, our new crew members will arrive in shuttle bay one in approximately five minutes. Please welcome them aboard and show them their quarters. Thank you." Then it was time talk to Dodge yet again. He would probably have to pull triple or quadruple shifts to finish his assignments in time. "Sorry to bother you again, Mr. Dodge, but I want you to conduct a level 2 diagnosis and several test runs on the cloaking device as soon as our weapons specialist is on board. There are some problems with the masking device and I want them solved before we're even close to the Gana Omicron system." Several minutes later she sat across the table from Narisha, who had already been waiting for her. "What a day..." she exclaimed. Her friend nodded knowingly, after all she was an empath. "So what's on the menu tonight?" Dorothy inquired, seeing that it was quite crowded in the mess hall. Apparently quite a few people were enjoying the good food. <> ------------------------- Capt. Merken smiled and nodded, and noticed the expression on her face, he instantly understood, his pheremones were probably a little to much to deal with at the moment. He turned back to his work. After a few minutes it was if everyone decided to have thier physicals at once. It was very busy, and he noticed Alexis was waiting for attention, he noted to himself to take care of her but after about three physicals he turned around and she was gone. After almost everyone had left, the CMO told him to go ahead and go, let the new guy handle it a while. Merken nodded, too tired to argue, he had been working pretty hard. He went to his quarters and laid on the bed a while. After an hour he began to focus his pheremones and internal systems on relaxing himself and releiving pressure and stress he had accumulated that day. After he was fully regenerated he decided to have a bit of a work out. Taking his sword he went to the holodeck and called up a forest setting with multiple enemies. He swung his katana with grace and fluid movement, parrying arcing swipes and thrusting at the proper times, slicing through his opponent with practiced ease. He began to work up a battle haze, losing himself in the drill, letting his body take over and shutting down his mind, after a while all he knew was the flashing blade, slicing through the air, the poetry of it as it defended blow after blow and dealt out the damage as good as it took. It was well made and did it's owner proud. After a while, he didn't know how long, he noticed there were no more enemies. He settled back and sat crossed legged with his sword in his lap, calling upon sooting meditation to ease the battle frenzy. After a few moments he got up and left the program and headed for his room, being a Deltan he didn't sweat much, but he still felt he needed to shower. After he was done he went to his bed and began to slip into the polem'da, the state of calm of Deltan, their vital signs sank to nothing almost, their breathing was very controlled and only took place every five minutes or so. The special biology of the Deltans allowed them to slip into this state to totally rest themselves so they would be prepared for the next day. Unusual as it is, the Deltan mind remains conscoious of it's surrondings, and can slip out of the polem'da at a moment's notice, totally refreshed and ready for action. This was a skill Merken had perfected over the years. But one thing was the same, dreams, they were always still there, and all his life, he had dreamed of his sister's death, no matter how hard he focused, she always played through his mind. He imagined her silent scream as the shuttle began to buckle, and then her blood beginning to boil, her eyes would... He quickly awoke from the trancelike state, he looked around his quarters and finally rested his head in his hands, trying to banish the images from his mind. ---Sorry everyone, my net conncetion went down, it may be a while between mail now, and anyone who came for their physical and was not answered, I took care of it, ok----- ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com From ???@??? He sighed , he looked at the rippled effect of the paint on the far wall and tried to make faces with the shapes in it.
He scratched his nose and found a spot,
a yawn then a poke at the pile of entertainment discs on the table.

Mozart Commanding Officer Stardate 49902.09 "Preparations" --------------------------- Dorothy Mozart sat down behind the desk in her ready room and did not dare look at the chronometer. The bridge had already been manned by the night shift when she had crossed it on her way to the ready room, and her eyes were beginning to feel like sandpaper. She chided herself for already exhausting her energies on the very first day. Sure, commissioning a new ship was always connected with a lot of work but she knew that this was nothing compared to what lay before them. Treating herself to a steaming mug of raktajino from the replicator, she activated her computer terminal and began recording. "Captain's log, stardate 49902.09. This being the second part of our journey, the Darwin is well under way to her first mission. The first official mission at least. Though not explicitly ordered by Starfleet, I consider it very important for the crew to get to know each other 'before' our first mission, which - in our case - will most likely be our first combat situation as well. "I can only say that our reception yesterday night was a huge success. It is most valuable for a captain to meet her crew in a less formal environment as well as in work situations. In addition, I believe the reception served as an opportunity to relieve the tension caused by our current situation. "It is not at all customary to send a ship into a potentially dangerous situation on her very first mission, but in our case, Starfleet was out of options. Add to that the fact that about half of our crew are scientists with little to no battle experience and the additional make-shift weaponry added to our systems, I can only say that I am very proud of my crew, proud of how efficiently they worked together on bringing the ship's systems up to 100 percent workload, regardless of some of the differences that have arisen throughout the day. "I hope that this efficiency will remain or even increase once we reach the Gana Omicron system to verify Starfleet Intelligence reports on a hidden Jem'Hadar base in the system. We have a little less than a day to conduct the final tests on our cloaking and masking device. Our phaser banks, photon torpedos and pulse emitters are running at full capacity already and although I hope it won't come to any hostilities, we will be prepared... for anything." <> ------------------------- Capt. He put his bag down and addressed the Transporter Chief.. "Request permission to come aboard, Chief. Ensign Paul Brehmer reporting for duty." "Welcome aboard sir, if you'll give me your service record, we'll get you started." Paul handed over the small disk and the Chief slipped it into the reader. "Ok sir, you're logged in the Deck Log, your orders are "stamped," and you're to report to the Tactical Officer for assignment, you're in his Department. If you don't mind me saying so, though, you look a little old to be an Ensign." "Well, I got started late, did some service in Planetary Defense Forces." "Oh local militia, huh, well that would explain it, I guess. You should fit in well here. " "Uh, ok, thanks, where do I go from here ?" "Well, I think Ensign Corum is in the bar, why don't you check there? Go out to the left and take the turbolift to deck eight. Then go forward. Mr. Corum's probably drinking one of his grapefriut concoctions. Leave your gear in back over here, you can come back and grab it later when you get your quarters assigned." Paul thanked the Chief again, left the room and headed up to the bar. With a whoosh, the door opened and he stepped into the bar. Looking around, he saw an Ensign approaching him. "Hello," the new ensign said. Paul caught a whiff of grapefruit and something alcoholic on the Ensign's breath. This must be my Department Head, he thought. He saluted quickly. "Sir, Ensign Paul Brehmer reporting aboard for duty."... From ???@???
