History:
Clavel was raised in the rather small town area of Okemos. Her
father was a physician and her mother an esteemed micro-biologist. From
her earliest years they tried to nurture a love of the life sciences in
Clavel and could never fully understand why their only daughter continued
to stare up at the night sky and devour information about the cosmos. They
gave in and on her sixth birthday gave her the best present she ever got,
her first telescope.
Clavel continued her love for the darkness of space with a
bachelors degree in astronomy from the University of Michigan (her
father's alma mater), a masters from the University of California at
Berkeley, and a doctorate from the Vulcan Science Academay.
After achieving her docotrate she could have had her pick of
professorships but decided a dry career in academia was not what she
santed. She wanted to be on the vanguard of astronomical discovery, so she
applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted.
She had an interesting time. Though rather old for a new cadet she
allowed herself to have a good time. She graduated and served on such deep
space stations as Deep Space Three and Deep Space Ten. She continued her
work and received credit as the descoverer of certain unique bands of
ultraviolet light the was admitted from burgeoning star systems. The
chance to work on the Darwin was one she couldn't pass up.
Side Note: Clavel has a well trained amateur voice and has been very
active in theater, musical theater, and opera. She was a member of the
University of Michigan Gilbert and Sulliven Society, sang in supporting
roles in La Boheme, La Traviata, and The Marriage of Figaro at
UC-Berkeley, and learned much about Vulcan music at The Vulcan Science
Academy.
