Allrighty, this is really simple. As an active member of this sim, you are required to:write at least one post a week (you can write as many as you want to...)
write a biography for your character and email it to the captain so it can be posted on the website
subscribe to the listserve by sending an email to [email protected] with subscribe darwin in the BODY of the message
inform the captain (via the listserve or in a personal email) if you can't post at least one a week for personal reasons (eg. vacation)
and most importantly...HAVE FUN and enjoy the sim!
On the Darwin, crewmembers are promoted according to the crew evaluation system rather than according to the number of rank points they have aquired.
What this means is that the officers get promoted whenever the captain feels they have earned the privilege of a higher rank and are ready to accept the responsibilities that come with it.
Please try to follow these rules when posting to the listserve. It'll make life much easier for you and your fellow crew mates.
Please include your character's name in either the from or the subject line. example one: From: Dorothy A. Mozart <[email protected]>
example two: Subject: Dorothy A. Mozart: Survival of the Fittest
This will make it much easier to organize your mail, trust me :)
Please include a title for your post in the subject line. example: Subject: Suvival of the Fittest
Again, this will make organizing your mail much easier.
Please include your character's name, position, title of the post and stardate within the first few lines of your post. example:
__________________________
Dorothy A. Mozart
Commanding Officer
Stardate: 49901.12
"Survival of the Fittest"
__________________________If you don't know how to calculate the stardate from the real date, please check here. It's easier than you think...
Please, don't use HTML or styles in your post. A lot of email clients can't read that and it turns your post into gibberish. Plain text is good enough.
When making out of character posts, please include 'OCC:' in your subject line. example: Subject: OCC: Sim Announcement and Promotion
Please try to break up your posts into several paragraphs. It makes it much easier to read them that way...nobody enjoys reading through a huge chunk of text... Again, I'm not trying to annoy you with these rules for posting, they are more suggestions than orders. Nothing will happen to you if you forget them once in a while... It's just a nice gesture to keep your posts in the same format.
Hint: If you can, create a folder or additional mailbox for your U.S.S. Darwin mail and filter your mail against the word "DARWIN" in the subject line.
When using a stardate in this sim, we are not using the 'real' Star Trek format...which is waaaay too confusing to understand anyway. Instead, we take the real take and just put into a 'stardate like' format. That way we're actually able to read those dates.
Please follow these simple rules when converting the real date into a stardate:
for example, January 12, 1999 would be stardate 49901.12
use a '4' as the first number
then take the last two digits of the year (eg. '99' in the year 1999)
then add the two-digit number for the month (eg. 01 for January, 11 for November)
add a point '.'
add the current day and your stardate is complete!
